Dollars and Sense consists of tax professionals (Enrolled Agents and CPAs) with over 30 years of combined tax experience. Our specialties for individuals include complex stock compensation, landlords/rentals, sole proprietorships, new homeowners, complex investments, passthrough K-1s and foreign tax issues. We also specialize in small business tax planning, including startup and entity selection, and preparation of LLC, S corporation, and partnership returns.

Kathy’s expertise is researching and analyzing complex tax situations and is committed to finding strategies beneficial for you or your business.
Lucy Du, CPA
Lucy is a California-licensed CPA (#116061), and holds a Master’s Degree in Accounting from the California State University, Los Angeles. With 14 years of public accounting experience, Lucy has expertise in all types of tax returns as well as accounting and business operations.
Lan Nguyen, EA
Lan Nguyen is an Enrolled Agent, licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service (00153368-EA). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from San Jose State University.
Chelsea Mandell, Bookkeeper
Chelsea Mandell is the bookkeeper for Dollars and Sense. She has a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz in Biology but switched to a career of bookkeeping/accounting after operating a small business for 10 years. Chelsea manages the day to day operations at Dollars and Sense and offers bookkeeping services to clients with businesses.

Caroline Ann Murphy, 1968 – 2021
Caroline Murphy passed away unexpectedly in her home at the end of last year. Caroline was an inspiration and a mentor for everyone on the Dollars and Sense team. We all appreciated her energy, commitment and kindness to her clients and staff. Caroline was an amazing tax professional and a good friend, and we will always remember her passion for adventure and exploring the world. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
